In an interview for Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, Emma Watson shared more about the episode in which she was banned from driving after exceeding the speed limit in Oxford, England, in July 2025.
“Oh my God, I was getting calls, like, it’s on the BBC, it’s in international news all over the world,” she commented on the reaction to the news. “I was like, my embarrassment is everywhere,” she added.
Emma Watson was banned from driving for six months in July, a year after receiving a speeding ticket in Oxford, England, for driving at 61 km/h in a 48 km/h zone.
The “Little Women” actress already had nine points on her license and was fined $1,400 in addition to the driving ban.
She mentioned that despite the misfortune, she received messages from people who had gone through the same kind of situation.

“I think, in a funny way, the sweetest outcome of this was receiving so many messages from people saying, ‘It happened to me too. I understand you. This is awful. It’s terrible,’” Emma Watson shared.
“Which was kind of nice, in a way. ‘Do you need a ride?’ I was like, actually, yes.” The “Harry Potter” star said that the speeding fine was a result of her stepping back from the acting world.
“So I went from basically only driving on weekends or during holidays to, when I became a student, driving all the time,” said Emma Watson, who is currently pursuing a Master’s in Creative Writing at the University of Oxford.
